Let's face it, Newport isn't much of a performance wave. Yeah
there's days when certain spots have waves that race down the
beach without a flaw, but you have to admit, much of the time
you're paddling in circles searching for corners that don't close
out. The best thing you could say for it is what it lacks in shape,
it makes up for in beach break power.
Obviously there's a ton of individuals in town that rip the
waves they have to work with, and have developed styles that are
well suited for beach breaks, but there are others whose styles
are better suited for long drawn out waves. Rick D. here is one
example. The guy surfs well in town, but put him on point wave,
where he has room for his wrap around carves and his surfing is
super impressive.
